Westfield centres going big for Black Friday
Black Friday Watch continues at the National Retail Association. The ever increasing popularity of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday events has changed the landscape of Christmas shopping, luring Aussie consumers out to the stores earlier than ever to nab discounts on big ticket items.
While it’s a bonanza weekend for online sales, with over $1 billion projected to be spent online over the four-day period, it is no longer a strictly online event. Brick-and-mortar stores are increasingly seeing the value of the physical presence and engaging customers through in-store offers, activations and more.
Scentre Group Regional Brand Experience Manager QLD, Kirstie Foord said this year Westfield is expecting many more retailers to participate in Black Friday:
“Black Friday is retail event customers across Queensland have told us they want to be a part of. Marking the start of the festive season, customers want to shop-instore and share the Black Friday experience with their friends and family. There is a very real and exciting opportunity for retailers to engage with customers and benefit from this customer interest and increased customer foot traffic.
“Westfield Carindale, Westfield Chermside and Westfield Garden City will all be open for extended trade on Black Friday through to 9pm to provide shoppers with more opportunity to take advantage of retailer offers.” Ms Foord said.
“Nationally, Westfield is communicating on radio and digital platforms the extended trade hours for this day. To compliment this, each Centre has additional planned activity”.
In light of the new extended trading hours for Black Friday in Adelaide, South Australia, Westfield Marion will stay open until midnight, while Tea Tree Plaza and West Lakes in Adelaide will push back their Friday trading hours to 9pm.
Westfield Chermside specifically, is offering a number of special offers and experiences this Black Friday for customers to enjoy, including:
- Shoppers receive a $20 Westfield gift card if they spend $200 between 6pm and 9pm (while stocks last);
- Westfield stylists on hand to assist customers with tracking down their perfect fashion finds, or finding gifts for the notoriously hard family members;
- Red Bull DJ Truck and Wings team in the Centre;
- Promotional staff handing out Black Friday survival kits; and
- A live DJ between 6pm to 9pm outside Sephora.
With even more activities purported to be locked down, this Black Friday Westfield is all about attracting the whole family to the centre from 6pm to shop like crazy. Add-value events like DJs and entertainment are exceptional ways to keep consumers in the store for longer, and has the potential to increase the amount of dollars spent in store.
Black Friday takes place on Friday, 29 November 2019. Sales continue through the weekend to Cyber Monday on Monday, 1 December 2019.
The National Retail Association will continue to monitor and report on Black Friday activities as part of our commitment as the voice of modern retail in Australia. As Australia’s most diverse retail industry association, the NRA can offer insights on behalf of all sizes and types of retailers in all states and territories.
